Mesa

Advertising entrepreneur Gavino Sanna is a Sardinian who lived, and made his fortune, in Milan before selling up and returning to his home island. Upon his return he established a new 70 hectare estate and winery in Sulcis in the south-west of Sardinia. Much of the vineyard lies sheltered from the maestrale winds and close to the heat tempering effect of the Mediterranean, in an area called Sant'Anna Arresi. Since 2008 the wine has been made by Stefano Cova, a young winemaker from Trentino in Italy's north-west, and he has maintained an upward curve in quality. It is easy to see that this estate is the project of an advertising guru when one sees the stylish labels. Fortunately, the wines live up to expectation.
